On Friday, May 17, Pearl S. Buck International presents an elegant, evening affair showcasing the area’s best restaurants, caterers and other food and beverage purveyors.  Set against the bucolic Bucks County landscape, the evening’s festivities include a Top Taste compeition, and both silent and live auctions.

This year we are turning up the heat by teaming up with Local Living Magazine, Open Aire Affairs, and Gecko Hospitality to offer an exciting, new Top Taste Competition! The competition requires chefs to prepare an international tapas style dish to be judged by celebrity guest judges. Top Taste judges include: Chef Maria Liberati, award-winning author, The Basic Art of Italian Cooking; Master Chef Joseph Poon; and guest emcee, Tim Furlong from NBC-10 Philadelphia. There will also be a Fan Favorite winner selected by attending guests. The winner chosen by the judges will capture the spotlight of Top Taste and “baste” in the glory with a two page feature story on the restaurant and its leading chef in the July/August 2013 issue of Local Living Magazine.

Proceeds from Taste of the World enable Pearl S. Buck International to continue to improve the lives of children through adoption, child sponsorship, and community programs at the Pearl S. Buck House in Bucks County, PA.

Fondant Cupcakes for Kids!  A Wilton Project Class.

Class location: Quakertown Michael’s

Instructor: Amy Recinos

Class Dates:   June 25, 2013    Time 10:00  - 12:00 noon

July 9, 2013, Time 10:00 – 12:00 Noon

Register for this class at Michael’s Arts and Crafts in Quakertown.

Registration is $15.00 per child plus supplies.

Children will need to bring cupcakes to class.  About 8 Regular size cupcakes.

Wilton 3 – Fondant and Gum Paste

This class is held at Michaels in Quakertown, PA

Class dates:  August  6, 13, 20, & 27

Time: 6:30 – 8:30PM

Class registration is $45.00.

3D Gelatin Flower Desserts

I have been trained by Lourdes Reyes of Mexico to make the Clematis in 3-D gelatin.

Learn how to make a flower inside a gelatin dessert!

This gelatin dessert is well-known in Mexico.

Impress your dinner guests with a dessert centerpiece.

You will be taking home your small gelatin desserts and the recipe.

Super Cakes for Kids!  A Wilton Project Class.

Class location: Quakertown Michael’s

Instructor: Amy Recinos

Class Dates:  July 16, 2013 –  Time 10- 12:00 Noon

Register for this class at Michael’s Arts and Crafts in Quakertown.

Registration is $15.00 per child plus supplies.

Children will need to bring a 8″ or 9″ round cake to class with icing.

Wilton 2 – Flowers and Cake Design

This class is held at Michaels in Quakertown, PA

Class dates:  July 2, 9, 16 & 23

Time: 6:30 – 8:30PM

Class registration is $45.00 full price.  See store for the current special.

You may register at Michaels in Quakertown.  When you register pick up your class syllabus.

In Flower and Cake Design you will learn the essentials for flower making.  You will work with fondant and gum paste to make Pansies and Button flowers with textured imprints.  You will learn how to make royal icing and pipe flowers.  Flowers include the Wilton Rose, Apple Blossom, Primrose, Rosebud, Daffodil, Lilies and Violet.

This class is an introduction to cake decorating and will provide a foundation for all the Wilton Method Courses.  You will learn how to make buttercream icing and ice a cake. Many decorating techniques will be taught in class including the dot, star,drop flowers, rosette, shell, Pompom flower, leaves, Shaggy Mum and a Ribbon Rose.
